Loud Pipes Save Lives (NOT!)

March 4th, 2008

I had this discussion with a nice lady at church the other day. (I go to a pretty neat church).

She sides with those that claim loud pipes are, in fact, a safety device, not an obnoxious nuisance.

I fall firmly in the opposing camp.

But, to be fair, I decided to do some online research, seeking some cold hard facts.

Apparently there aren’t any.

There are a number of compelling arguments for both sides, but no hard data.

What do you think, and why do you think it? And, do you know of any scientific research on the subject.

Best Arkansas Destinations

December 2nd, 2007

We’re looking for people’s favorite destinations in Arkansas. At the end of December we’ll review the blog results and do a feature on that destination. Just respond to this blog entry with your suggestions. Feel free to list either the destination or the destination and why you like it. I’ll start - My favorite is Marble Falls. I like to stay at the Hub, and there is easy access to Jasper and Harrison, both of which are biker-friendly communities. Plus the riding is amazing.

Bike review for December

November 24th, 2007

I tested a Honda VTX 1300 yesterday. The review will be in the December edition of Riding South. I really liked this bike. Besides being fast and having pretty goood handling, it was amazingly comfortable. At my age that counts for a lot.

E-mail from Hell

November 22nd, 2007

I wrote this on my day job. It’s a conversation between Beelzebub and Satan about e-mail. Has nothing to do with bikes.

December edition of Riding South

November 17th, 2007

Lots of neat stuff planned for the Dec. edition. There’s a story and photos of a sidecar rally, a review of a Honda Metropolitan, and Ann Caruso has said I may be getting another lady rider feature. I’ve still got another motorcycle review to write. I’m working on some updates for the web site, among which is this new blog. Yahoo 360 is going away and I wanted to have a blog more directly linked to the site anyway, so I’m hoping this will work out. I’ve started a column archive, which will grow in coming weeks and I’m hoping to get some of the early tour stories and photos on line. My new sales rep and advertising guru Ellie Wilson has sold some advertising for the site, which will be up in December and the web site is going to become more than just an on-line ad for the magazine. So, stay tuned. Also, post some responses to this blog, even if it’s just “test” and tell me if it was fairly easy to do.

Hello world!

November 11th, 2007

I’m trying to start a new Riding South blog since yahoo 360 is being discontinued. Let me know how you like this.
